Timex Ironman Run Trainer GPS Watch Giveaway!

J.R. Martinez in Training for the NYC Marathon
toRaise Money for the NYRR Youth Programs
Hear the name J.R. Martinez and Dancing With the Stars probably comes to mind. The actor and motivational speaker was the winner of season 13 of the dancing competition show watched by millions. He's also famous for his role on the soap, All My Children. Martinez began his motivational speaking after being severely burned over 34% of his body while deployed in Iraq. Since then he's been speaking to thousands on the topic of resilience and optimism.

Martinez has now partnered with Timex for an awesome adventure to benefit the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Youth Programs. These programs serve over 100,000 children in schools and community centers nationwide, promoting health and fitness, character development and personal achievement in underserved communities.

Timex isn't just getting Martinez ready to run the marathon. No, they're getting him ready to be the last place runner. Well, at least at the start. You see, Timex is going to donate $1 for every person that Martinez passes in the race. So, you can already guess, that Martinez is getting in the best shape of his life in order to pass as many runners as possible!

"I have learned to embrace every challenge and I am especially excited to train for the ING NYC Marathon." Martinez said. "As a motivational speaker, I want to continue to spread the message that you can accomplish anything that you put your mind to. I'm excited that together, Timex and I will make an impact on the lives of children benefiting from NYRR Youth Programs."

Timex is supplying Martinez with Timex Multisport Team athlete, Mac Brown as his coach who has created a specific training program for Martinez in order to maximize safety and performance.

Of course Martinez will be sporting the new Timex Ironman Run Trainer GPS Watch while training for and during the marathon to help keep track of pace and distance covered. (Be sure to enter the giveaway below for your chance to win one of the same watches!)

Fans will be able to track Martinez's progress during the marathon on November 4th via the TIMEX Sports Facebook page as well as @TIMEXSports and @iamjrmartinez on Twitter. Watch the video clip below to hear Martinez tell more about his upcoming adventure.

Mind Games

buuuuzzzzzZZZZZZZZ!! How many times has your alarm shocked you out of a deep morning's sleep to wake you for your morning run? How many times have you hit that snooze button while the "mind games" begin? It's too cold to get out of bed. I think I'm getting a cold....better not run today. How many of you actually sleep during that extra 5 minutes of snooze time? I must confess that all too often I'm struck with the "runner's wake-up mind games." Thankfully, I rarely ever succumb to the games. Instead I moan, roll out of bed, and stumble in the dark looking for my running shoes, because I know that if I miss that run, I'll regret it for the rest of the day.

Recently Nike released a new short movie from director Casey Neistat. It was written years ago when Casey first started running. The 2.5 minute short movie not only explores the mind games runners face before they get out the door, it also delves into the ideas one focuses on while on the run.

His film was commissioned to be made while Neistat trained in NYC for the New York City Marathon this year, to help celebrate the Nike way of showing creativity through sport. For three weeks, Casey used a smalled HD video camera that he carried with him on runs to shoot the movie. Jordan Galland, a good friend and long time collaborator, did the the music for the movie.

I think any runner will relate to Neistat and his running journey. Check it out below.

Enter Video Contest for Chance to Win a NYC Marathon Entry!

Do you want to go the distance…all 26.2 miles across the five boroughs of New York? Team Lifeline is ready to give you the chance with the first ever “Team Lifeline New York, New York Video Contest.” In this contest, avid and aspiring runners are invited to submit a short video that will convince a panel of distinguished judges why they deserve the opportunity to run in the ING New York City Marathon, the world’s largest marathon. Twenty lucky individuals will win exactly that—guaranteed entry into the marathon, which takes place on Sunday, November 7, 2010. In exchange, team members raise a minimum of $3,600 each for Chai Lifeline, the international children’s health support network dedicated to bringing joy and hope to seriously ill children and their families.

Team Lifeline encourages creativity, so don your director’s cap, pick up your flip camera and start shooting. Video submissions must be two minutes or less and should convey why you, the runner, deserve a spot in the marathon. Be spontaneous, hilarious, serious or dramatic, but go the distance to win one of the highly coveted spots. The videos will be posted online for the public to view at http://www.teamlifeline.org/ and on Team Lifeline’s Facebook page. To apply for the contest [click here]. Submissions will be accepted through May 24th, 2010, and the winners will be announced May 28th, 2010.

“As the song goes—If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere—but first, you do indeed have to make it there,” said Ari Weinberger, Team Lifeline Captain. “Team Lifeline is thrilled to offer this amazing opportunity to runners around the globe. We hope that the first ever video contest will help raise awareness and funds for a truly inspirational organization.”

Team Lifeline is an endurance training program that proves that “you can go the distance,” by providing individuals of all ages and skills with the tools to complete a marathon or half-marathon. In exchange, team members raise much needed funds for
Chai Lifeline, the international children’s health support network dedicated to bringing joy and hope to seriously ill children and their families. The funds raised by Team Lifeline are earmarked specifically for the organization’s Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, incredible overnight summer camps designed to meet the unique medical and social needs of children and teens with life-threatening or lifelong illnesses.

Last year, over 300 dedicated Team Lifeline runners laced up their running shoes for the ING New York City Marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon, and ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, raising more than $1.35 million for Chai Lifeline programs and services. This year marks the first time that Team Lifeline will be participating as an official charity team in the ING NYC Marathon.
