I came home ravenous for salt and sugar, gulping down copious amounts of water and trail mix.
It was the warmest day I have encountered running this year, too, however, not that warm really.
I am a salty sweater, but that one took the cake!
Thanks for the feedback.Chadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17849682281180104077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007050355748263232.post-89128997691329894322010-04-26T12:14:05.017-04:002010-04-26T12:14:05.017-04:00loved learning more about Sage!! Never done yoga before, but I hear so many good things about it I figured it was worth a go.Evolving Through Runninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00708963226692830313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007050355748263232.post-30604186496695713292010-04-25T23:28:14.602-04:002010-04-25T23:28:14.602-04:00Hi Chad! Did you get that doing yoga? LOL! Having ...Hi Chad! Did you get that doing yoga? LOL! Having salt stains is fairly common. Yours does seem to be a bit extreme. Could be from a variety of things. What was your diet like before the run? Did you have some salty meals? Chinese food? potato chips?

Some runners just naturally have saltier sweat than others. On average one sweats about 500 milligrams sodium per pound of sweat. But the range can be around 200 to 1,000 milligrams. You're probably closer to the 1,000ml end.

If you're not acclimated to exercising in the heat you can lose closer to the 1,000ml amount of sodium. If you are not used to exercising in heat, you may lose 1,100 milligrams of sodium per pound of sweat. After your body has acclimated to the climate you'll probably lose closer to the 200ml end.

I've notice that I have more salt caked runs at the beginning of the warm weather season, but after a few runs in the heat, I no longer have the excess salt.

When you do have those "salty runs," be sure to rehydrated but also be sure to replace the lost sodium by eating a salty food like pretzels or drinking a sports drink that has the needed electrolytes (potassium and sodium).RunnerDudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15209079063314051451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007050355748263232.post-14580046655827450002010-04-25T22:58:48.436-04:002010-04-25T22:58:48.436-04:00RunnerDude, is this a normal thing to leave this m...RunnerDude, is this a normal thing to leave this much salt?
http://runningfool-ootaynee.blogspot.com/
check it out!
